In 2006 Artist Richard Box created Field. I was reminded of this piece last night when Architect, Robert Fox showed it during a talk about sustainability and tall buildings.
Movies and a Music Video after the jump (its worth reading)!!
The project demonstrated the power of electromagnetic fields that are generated when energy leaks from power transmission lines. Box planted over 800 fluorescent tubes below power transmission lines while in Residency at the Physics Department at Bristol University. There was enough energy in the field to charge the ballast and excite the argon gas inside the tubes! A sublime reminder that we are not an efficient species.
MINTON created a great documentary of the event also entitled Field.
